The sorry mess that saw a journalist kicked off Twitter for being mildly critical of a US TV network's Olympic coverage has been resolved, with the account reinstated and both Twitter and NBC standing down over how silly they've been.
In a blog post on the matter, Twitter acknowledged that the complaint process was initiated by its own staff, who tipped off NBC and encouraged it to lodge a formal complaint about one negative tweet from journalist Guy Adams. Twitter said "we want to apologize for the part of this story that we did mess up," letting users know that this it doesn't really want its staff spending their time grassing up users on behalf of major corporations.
For its part NBC has said it "didn't initially understand the repercussions" of taking its complaint to the top of the tweet chain, and has rescinded its original objections. So all the Americans moaning about NBC's awful, time delayed Olympic coverage may tweet without fear. [Twitter via the Guardian]
