Native Instagram App for BB10 Not on the Horizon, Says Source

Owners of the new BB10 phones are going to have to look elsewhere for a means of capturing, editing and distributing photographs of their duck wraps and Thai chilli fish cakes, as sources claim Instagram is currently steering clear of the new OS and not working on a custom native app.

Sources speaking to tech site AllThingsD are said to have said: "There will be no [native] Instagram for BB10 for now. Frankly, I’m not sure there will ever be."

Which sounds like a pretty firm "no" to us. Mind you, it took Instagram a few years to bother converting its popular app to Android, once Google's OS reached critical mass, so maybe it's actually quite a clever move to wait and see if an ecosystem takes off before committing to supporting it? A bit selfish, but makes sense.

Instagram is instead thought to be porting its current Android app to BB10, as we've seen happen with quite a few other BB10 apps. It won't be the same, but will get the job done. [AllThingsD via Ubergizmo]
