The Louvre Closed as Staff Strike Over Pickpocket Menace

By Gary Cutlack on at

The extremely famous and most visited museum in the world was closed yesterday, thanks to staff walking out over aggressive pickpocketing which has seen organised gangs, some using children, terrorising workers.

According to striking staff, the thieves have been becoming more aggressive and pushy, stealing from employees of the museum as well as the many dazed tourists that wander its rooms. Violence is becoming more of a thing, too, with reports of staff being spat at, threatened and kicked.

It's open again today. If you're planning a visit, leave your mobile, tablet, camera, children and car keys back in the hotel safe seems to be the warning. [Guardian]
