BA OKs Passengers' Take-Off and Landing Tech on Flights From Today

By Gerald Lynch on at

BA is to today become the first European airline to approve the use of technology including smartphones and tablets during take-off and landing, following last month's EASA decision to green-light in-flight gadgetry.

So long as each device has its flight safe mode switched on for the duration of the flight, BA estimate passengers should each benefit from an extra 30 minutes with their devices during journeys. Making calls and using mobile data is still not allowed however, though that's a stance that could change in the future too. Laptops, strangely, are still banned from use during take-off and landing though, so that spreadsheet will have to wait until the arrivals lounge. [BBC]
