Resurrecting Palm's ill-fated mobile OS – which never truly delivered on phones – LG's new range of webOS-powered TVs will make up a staggering 70 per cent of the company's 2014 Smart TV line-up. That's a very clear sign of commitment to the technology—but what can we expect from it?
Well, we only have a Korean press release to go on, but the concept seems to focus on three buzzword features: simple connection, simple switching, and simple discovery.
The first is supposed to help users set-up easily. Switch on the TV and an animated character called Bean Bird guides you through the set-up. Yay? Simple switching, more usefully, uses the Cards interface, similar to those that appeared in the original webOS phone, to help users to switch between apps.
Images from LG suggest there will be an app store, offering the likes of Twitter, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, and more, and there's a built in browser, too. Which, along with voice and gesture-based controls, should all help you discover in 'smart' style.
The new webOS TVs will be available in Korea first, before they roll out in the US, Europe and the rest of the world later this year. There are currently no details on models or pricing—which will probably be announced later this week. [LG via Verge]
