Ukip Councillor Suspended After Suggesting Gay Marriage Caused the UK's Floods

By Gary Cutlack on at

The latest bizarre rant by a Ukip councillor has earned him a suspension, after David Silvester wrote an incredibly weird letter to a local newspaper in which he blamed the UK's recent spate of floods on the government's decision to allow same-sex marriages.

Silvester's rant would perhaps have been taken seriously 2,000 years ago, but in the year 2014, saying something like: "The scriptures make it abundantly clear that a Christian nation that abandons its faith and acts contrary to the Gospel (and in naked breach of a coronation oath) will be beset by natural disasters," and expecting not to be laughed at is utterly mad.

The Henley-on-Thames councillor made things worse for himself by later revealing in a radio interview that he prays for gay people to be "healed."

The bizarre news has already spawned the inevitable joke Twitter account, with UkipWeather now out there to advise users to be prepared should any less than manly activity be spotted in their local area. [HuffPo]
