Noel Edmonds Wants to "Save" the BBC by Buying it and Running it for Profit

By Gary Cutlack on at

Noel Edmonds has gone public with a top secret plan he calls "Project Reith," which would see the ageless bearded man heading a consortium that would BUY the BBC and turn it private, running the entire thing as a profit-making company.

Edmonds outlined his plan to an outraged Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight, claiming the concept has been in development for 18 months. Edmonds suggests his team of financiers want to salvage the BBC from whatever nebulous future threats it may face, saying the corporation is "sleepwalking" to its own destruction.

"And Mr Blobby's the man to save it?" asked Paxman of Edmonds, while Noel tried very hard to keep his serious business face intact. Noel wouldn't drop any hints about his team's plan for a future private BBC, although he seemed to suggest stuff like its investment in the World Service and niche Gaelic broadcasts might be the first thing his bankers would chop.
