What's Your Favourite Movie or TV Plot That Would be Obsolete Today?

Technology's so great. All this communication capability can put you in touch with your friends and family, no matter where in the world they are. Which blows a giant hole through most of the movie and TV plots written up until, say, the late 1990s. What's your favourite storyline that would never exist in a world with cell phones and internet?

Mine has to be the Home Alone series. I'll gleefully watch them all, repeatedly, during the Christmas period, but right around the time I got my first smartphone, I realised that the simple addition of a phone in each character's pocket would make the whole storyline of each Home Alone movie completely obsolete.

My youngest brother, who's still in high school and doesn't really remember life before mobile phones, is even more perplexed by the whole thing. Episodes of Seinfeld, where people roam around asking to use the phone (or getting into mishaps because they weren't home to get a call) must seem as foreign to him as cowboy westerns do to me.

So what's your favourite tech-unsavvy plot line? Tell us in the comment section below. Hell, maybe we can even try to update them for the 21st century. I could totally understand Kevin McCallister's parents forgetting to bring him to the airport because they were too distracted by their smartphones.
