Birmingham's Posh Library is "Useless" as Some Books are Unreachable

By Gary Cutlack on at

Those with library cards in the Birmingham area claim the city's glorious new library is a classic example of form over function, with users saying some reference books are stored out of reach due to designers of the £190m building not really caring about the visitors.

The complaints refer to a reference storage area known as The Stack, where hundreds of niche periodicals are stored. Visitors have to request entrance to the area, but there's currently little point in doing so as the custom moving platforms needed to reach some parts of the store haven't been installed yet.

Health and safety concerns mean staff can't stand on chairs to get books either, so it's alleged that "hundreds of thousands" of books are currently unobtainable. [Birmingham Post via Metro]
