Intel Announces Update to Thunderbolt Promising Super-Fast 10 Gbps Data Transfer

By Jamie Condliffe on at

Intel's Thunderbolt 2 standard has received an update: now, it can be used to pair computers together—even Macs to PCs—to allow data transfer at speeds of up to 10Gbps. That's pretty quick.

The capability to transfer files so quickly will be a boon to film-makers and media creatives, making data-heavy 4K video a more workable medium. "Thunderbolt 2 is the only technology available that can provide the bandwidth, functionality, and ease of use necessary for optimised 4K workflows", Intel said.

Thunderbolt connectivity has been available OS X Mavericks for some time. This new update will create the aforementioned capability to network a PC and a Mac, as well as two PCs. [Intel]
