Doctors Could be Forced to Apologise for Mistakes or Face the Sack

By Gary Cutlack on at

TheĀ General Medical Council wants to toughen up the rules covering the mistakes doctors make while on the job, suggesting the threat of being struck off the medical register may be used to force them to apologise to victims and their families.

The change would also enforce whistle-blowing on colleagues who make mistakes, with the GMC wanting to require doctors to raise concerns about the fitness to practise of their peers. Tougher guidelines on perceived bullying in the workplace are also included in the consultation on rule changes, which runs until November. [Telegraph]
