Netflix Hack Lets You Browse Movies in 3D With Oculus Rift

By Robert Sorokanich on at

Summer Hack Day just wrapped up at Netflix headquarters, with company folks cranking out a whole bunch of silly, charming, harebrained ideas. Our favourite has got to be this Oculus Rift-powered, gesture-controlled setup. Pick your favourite movie or TV show like Professor X using Cerebro!

We should be extra clear in pointing out that this 3D room full of Netflix is 100 per cent just a concept. But that's not to take anything away from Ian McKay, Steve McGuire, Rachel Nordman, Kris Range, Alex Bustin, and M. Frank Emanuel, the Netflix team that came up with this brilliant hack. The hack day spawned plenty of other great, quirky ideas that you can check out here.

Just think: With an Oculus Rift strapped to your face, endlessly browsing Netflix in an ever-escalating state of indecision could be way more awesome. [Netflix Tech Blog via The Verge]
