Well Behaved Web Sites and Apps Now Qualify for British Standards Kitemark Logo

The classic British Standards Institute's Kitemark logo, which has been assuring us that the factory in which our toys were assembled stuck to all the rules for over 100 years, has had its remit extended. It may now be displayed on web sites and within apps that meet certain standards for keeping our data safe and secure.

The new digital Kitemark is making its first appearance within the Barclays Pingit app, a popular tool for beaming money to friends using just your treasured banking details and a mobile phone number, and on the full Barclays Mobile Banking app.

Maureen Sumner Smith, BSI’s UK managing director, said: "Many organisations have good information security processes already established, but by having their systems independently tested on a regular basis as part of the BSI Kitemark process, they can clearly demonstrate to customers their commitment to safeguarding information."
