Activision Paid Paul McCartney How Much for That Destiny Song?

If you're hoping for something comparable to Paul McCartney's worldwide, world-peace-triggering mega-hit Jet ("Jet! Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo") at the end of Activision's new shooter Destiny, you may be in for some disappointment. As our pals at Kotaku UK point out, it's a bit, well...meh.

So, of course the question turns to how big a paycheque publishers Activision handed over to the Beatle for having phoned it in? Speaking to Vulture, Bungie's community manager Eric Osbourne gave a somewhat surprising answer:

There was no check involved, big or otherwise. He's in it for the creativity. He got a wonderful opportunity to reach an audience that wouldn't typically be immersed in Paul McCartney. They might hear the name — of course he's everywhere, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics, obviously he's touring and recording nonstop — but he sees it as a way to reach a new audience that might not otherwise hear his music.

It seems like McCartney and U2 must have been down the pub together recently. Listen to the Destiny track below. [Vulture]
