LG is to stop making plasma tellies from the end of November, joining Samsung and Panasonic who also hung up their PDPs in pursuit of grander OLED dreams this year. We're fairly sure this means the sector is a goner.
It's easy to see why. In a TV market that is suffering badly across the board as we hang on to our big screens for longer as we shift to smaller, more flexible screens, plasma was unlikely to survive.
But is this just the inevitable superseding of tech or are there some who still won't hear a word said against plasma's contrast ratio? With technology always looking for the next, is there ever a case for "they don't make 'em like they used to"?
Are there other tech gems that the world simply stopped making that you yearn to be stocked again?
