Sony's Xperia Z3 impressed at IFA 2014 back in September. But the runaway smartphone production train shows no sign of stopping -- with Sony's CES 2015 showcase confirmed to take place on January 5th next year, it's now looking very likely that it'll play host to the unveiling of the Xperia Z4 too.
With the press conference news also comes alleged leaked specs, courtesy of sources speaking to Phone Arena. It's looking like a fairly modest upgrade for the flagship Sony phone. A 5.4-inch qHD Triluminos display is said to be up front, powered by an 805 generation Snapdragon processor. If Qualcomm manages to get the supply of Snapdragon 810 processors sorted by the time the Xperia Z4 launches, the Z4's claimed 805 processor may not stack up well against the competition. But, as all rumours go, let's hold off for the real deal before passing judgement.
Elsewhere, 4GB of RAM is touted (Android 5.0 with its 64-bit kernel now supports such high memory counts, but this may prove price-inflating overkill when it comes to real-world benefits), with a sizeable 3420mAh battery said to be under the hood. Round the back may sit a 20.7MP rear camera sensor -- the same megapixel count as that found in the Z3, but here supposedly making use of more advanced components, including two more lens elements for capturing more light for dimly-lit shooting scenarios.
