Banned Google-Backed DIY DNA Tests Launch in the UK

The Google-backed DNA sequencing test that's been available in the US for years – and banned there more than a year ago for not backing up its marketing claims with actual evidence for the US Food and Drugs Administration – is now usable over here.

For £125, you can have a 23andMe kit sent to you in the post to test your saliva for signs of possible future illnesses. Fill the tube up with your gob and send it back and it'll be sent to the Netherlands for analysis, with an online health and ancestry report generated from the sample within 3-4 weeks.

You can then go and tell your GP Google told you you might get Alzheimer's in 30 years' time and see what happens. [23andMe via Guardian]
