Anyone hoping for a pure Android Huawei smartphone or Windows Phone blower should, well, stop. A heavily skinned version of Google's mobile OS dubbed Emotion UI has been at the centre of the Chinese firm's growth of late and it has confirmed to us that it will be sticking to this approach for the foreseeable.
“It’s not very easy to have a DIY Windows Phone,” Shao Yang, Huawei’s chief marketing officer for devices, told us in a round table at the firm’s Shenzhen HQ. “On Windows, everything is very similar, it’s hard to differentiate. Android allows for different characters.”
Yet while the firm is more than happy with Android as its base, Yang confirmed it was “not our strategy” to produce a pure Android phone, keen instead to push Huawei own interface. Great news for the reskin fans, but if you don't like it, you'll have to lump it.
