Lifeboat and Police Chopper Called to Pull Dead Sheep out of the Thames

By Gary Cutlack on at

A lifeboat scrambled to pull out a person seen floating in the Thames ended up rescuing a dead sheep that had, for some baffling reason, been wrapped up in a duvet.

Gravesend RNLI were despatched to rescue the object spotted near Crayford Ness, with the Met Police helicopter called in to direct the rescuers.

It is quite surprising to see a sheep in the Thames, but not really so surprising it warrants the emergency services, with the lifeboat team saying they were so unimpressed they left it there, explaining they: "...secured the sheep to a buoy for later recovery by the Port of London." [Standard]
