Apple Turning Flop Sapphire Screen Facility into £1.3bn Data Warehouse

The former location of GT Advanced Technologies Inc, which was supposed to be building sapphire screens for iPhones in the US but couldn't and went bust because the technology was rubbish, is being turned into Apple's latest enormous server farm.

The tech giant is investing $2bn (£1.3bn) on the scheme, which will turn the Arizona facility into a data warehouse, with Apple saying it'll actually be a very important "command centre for our global networks". One that will employ around 150 staff once converted, at least. [Bloomberg]
