Architects Run Wild With Proposals for Another New London Bridge

The controversial garden bridge could soon be joined by another new crossing over the Thames, with Wandsworth Council suggesting that a new bridge linking Nine Elms and Pimlico is needed -- and asking architects both pro and am to submit proposals.

The result is a wide range of possible plans for a new pedestrian and cycle crossing, ranging from bridges with weird integral waterfalls to your usual, high-concept, never-going-to-happen swirly pink things. Here are some of the possible options:

The bottom one must be from a primary school. Well done, Class 3. A staggering 74 possible designs have been submitted to fill the gap between the Chelsea and Vauxhall bridges in the distant future, all of which can be seen up on the competition web site.

Entries are anonymous at this stage, so there's no advantage in being a renowned architect partnership with a stack of airports in the portfolio. [Standard]
