London Faces Another Tube Strike Over Breath Test Sacking

By Gary Cutlack on at

Members of the RMT union have voted to call another tube strike in London, one that's been triggered by the sacking of one member of staff for failing a breath test before going on duty last year.

The case is said to involve former driver Alex McGuigan, who failed two random alcohol breath tests at Morden station last June. He was sacked, but the RMT claims his diabetes might have influenced the test results and would like TfL to re-examine the case, with RMT organiser John Leach saying the underground network "...breached its own protocols in deal with drug and alcohol testing and sacked Alex unfairly."
