Young Han Solo Could be Played by Kingsman's Taron Egerton

With filming wrapped on Star Wars: Episode VII and post-production on this winter's blockbuster going into overdrive, the rumour mill is turning its attention to the franchise's planned spin-off movies. We're getting a good idea of what to expect from Gareth Edwards' alleged Boba Fett movie, and we're now hearing the first believable information surrounding the rumoured Han Solo origin film.

According to The Sun's entertainment sources, Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton is being lined up to play a young Han Solo. With the unenviable task of filling Harrison Ford's shoes, the movie would focus on how the fledgling smuggler got his hands on the Millenium Falcon, and his first run-in with the slimy Jabba the Hutt.

With Episode VII due out this winter, Edwards' film 2016 and Rian Johnson's Episode VIII landing in 2017, Solo's solo flick would likely arrive in 2018. With Egerton 25 now, the film would likely show Solo in his late 20's (Ford was well into his 30s when the first Star Wars film was made.)

With a cheeky-chappie star-making turn in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Egerton's as good a bet as anyone to take on the role. While some will argue these classic roles should never be recast regardless, Disney's going to milk Star Wars for all it is worth. Get used to the idea, and pray someone suitable like Egerton lands the role.
