The character above isn't just an affront to God himself, but is the new mascot for a Scottish football team.
Scottish Premier League team Partick Thistle has adopted the new mascot following a new sponsorship deal with California-based Kingsford Capital Management. Apparently the six-figure deal came about because Kingsford boss Mike Wilkins is a big fan of the artist David Shrigley, who himself is a fan of the club.
Turner Prize nominee Shrigley designed the new mascot, and the new logo which will adorn the shirts of players for the next two seasons. Kingsley, as the mascot will be known, will apparently be there on match days helping fans support their team.
Talking about the deal, David Shrigley said: “As a Jags man it’s an honour to be involved with the club in this way. I can’t wait to see my design on the front of the shirts and around Firhill and just hope the fans like what we’re trying to do. It’s safe to say we have a few surprises in store for the supporters and we’re already in talks with a few other artists to arrange some pretty exciting giveaways over the course of the season.”
We presume the strategy is to give the other team nightmares. [PTFC]
