Starbreeze Announces VR Headset With Larger Field of View Than Oculus Rift

Sure, Oculus Rift looks great. But could Starbreeze be about to blow it out of the water?

The company, perhaps better known as the developer behind Payday, recently bought InfinitEye, which has come up with what is now dubbed the StarVR headset. The most significant feature? The two Quad-HD screens that are both massive, coming in at 5.5 inches apiece (and run at 5120x1440). It's like having two Galaxy Note 4s strapped to your face.

What this means is that it should give you a more realistic 210-degree field of vision compared to only 100 degrees from the likes of Oculus Rift. Apparently the headset is designed to work with the company's Valhalla engine, which according to PC Gamer "supports not only 3D but is fully virtual reality (VR) ready, and proofed on several headsets currently on the market".

The VR space is getting increasingly crowded, so it will be interesting to see if StarVR can make an impact. [PC Gamer]
