Welsh Government Answers UFO Queries in Klingon

By Gary Cutlack on at

A rogue, unpredictable and downright potentially dangerous element deep within the Welsh government has dared -- dared! -- to have a bit of fun while conducting the serious business of a devolved government, gently mocking a query about UFOs over Cardiff Airport by responding in the Klingon language.

The answer read: "jang vIDa je due luq ach ghotvam'e' QI'yaH devolve qaS," which, the supplied translation explains for anyone not fluent in Klingon, means "The minister will reply in due course. However this is a non-devolved matter."

The response was generated through an online translator on behalf of economy, science and transport minister Edwina Hart, who was answering, in a vague mocking tone, the questions of Shadow Health Minister Darren Millar.

Millar was, for some odd reason, asking very serious questions about UFO activity in Wales, wanting to know among other things: "What discussions has the Welsh government had with the Ministry of Defence regarding sightings of unidentified flying objects in Wales in each of the past five years?" and "...how many reports of unidentified flying objects there have been at Cardiff Airport since its acquisition by the Welsh government?" [BBC via Ars]
