Is a weird, barely imaginable Doctor Who/Lord of the Rings mashup incoming? Probably not, but Peter Jackson’s got tongues wagging with a curious Facebook post this morning. He shared a video that suggests he’s in line to direct an episode of Doctor Who in the near future, though it may all just be a bit of geeky fun.
In the clip, Jackson’s daughter says Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat has been in touch, though Peter says he can’t understand his messages and therefore refuses to reply. A shifty Peter Capaldi then enters the scene, ordering Jackson to sign a document. He’s subsequently chased away by a Dalek, leaving Jackson and his daughter to run off to watch The Walking Dead. The document remains unsigned.
Unsurprisingly, geeks all over the world are salivating, though it’s not only the prospect of a Jackson-directed Who episode that’s got them hot under the collar. Eagle-eyed viewers have noticed that a bookmarked copy of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion sits on the table throughout the sketch. It's set in the same world as The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, featuring a bunch of stories from Bilbo Baggins.
