Reddit User Creates XCOM Game in Microsoft Excel, Names it XLCOM

By Aatif Sulleyman on at

Accountants aside, nobody's ever had fun in Microsoft Excel. The spreadsheet is one of the most frightening inventions of all time, but a Redditor has somehow managed to breathe life into the pit of cells. A user known as ccruzi has created a functioning XCOM game inside Excel and has, naturally, named it XLCOM.

It’s obviously not as visually-striking as the real XCOM, but the fact that its bare bones have been built in a spreadsheet is mind-boggling. More impressive still is ccruzi's claim that he didn’t know how to write a single line of code as recently as two months ago. Unfortunately, the game's not quite ready to play, as ccruzi says he's only recreated the tactical portion of XCOM so far. Lazy git. [GamesRadar+]
