TfL's Trial of Clever eInk London Bus Timetables is Frustratingly Limited

By Aatif Sulleyman on at

TfL has revealed that it’s started trialling eInk displays at bus stops, which show real-time timetables, route maps and travel information. Or rather, I should say display and bus stop. Frustratingly, the trial is currently limited to one bus stop near Waterloo Bridge, and TfL reportedly plans to roll out just three more -- at Parliament Square, Piccadilly Circus and Sloane Square -- in January.

I'm not usually one to wet myself over eInk, but these new displays sound pretty much perfect. They’re designed to offer a comfortable reading experience in both dark and bright conditions, can be charged from a solar panel and stay up-to-date via a 3G connection. It’s a tantalising taste of a sensible future. Let's just pray that no drunken idiots smash them down because the 'Loading' screen was mugging them off. [Engadget]
