Despite previous public ambivalence toward the new films' trailer campaign, George Lucas has decided he's "into" Star Wars again -- and is already a fan of The Force Awakens.
George's approval for The Force Awakens comes via Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who told the Hollywood Reporter that he's already been shown a final cut of the film and, we quote, "he really liked it."
Although, elaborating on this a bit to Vulture, Lucas seemed to be hedging his bets a bit more, also coming across as perhaps a bit disparaging toward the fans. "I think the fans are going to love it. It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for," he said, which could be taken to sound a little bit patronising about "the fans" and what they want from their favourite series.
Lucas was much more entertaining on the subject of his divorce from the franchise, though, explaining his feelings on attending the premiere alongside the new creative team with: "I gotta go to the wedding. My ex will be there, my new wife will be there, but I’m going to have to take a very deep breath and be a good person and sit through it and just enjoy the moment, because it is what it is and it’s a conscious decision that I made."
