Windows Phone Users Won't Get the Windows 10 Mobile Upgrade This Year

By Aatif Sulleyman on at

You’ve got to admire Windows Phone users’ patience. Despite the constant stream of promises, Microsoft’s mobiles have never been anything other than works in progress due to the software -- specifically the lack of apps -- and the situation's going to stay this way until at least January unless you bought the Lumia 950 or Lumia 950XL.

A company spokesperson has confirmed that Windows 10 Mobile will not land on older handsets until next year, despite Microsoft previously promising that it would start rolling out ahead of Christmas. This is the upgrade users have been waiting for, and the news will come as an irritating blow to loyal customers.

If you're sick of being stuck on Windows Phone 8 or 8.1, you can bump yourself up to the latest build of Windows 10 Mobile by subscribing to the Windows Insider program, but be warned that you'll have to put up with missing features. [ZDNet]
