Warner Bros. had a rather busy one last night, dropping both the new Suicide Squad trailer and a little look at Wonder Woman. The two movies are starkly different in tone, with one going for wacky and weird vibes, and the other, well, looking like a formulaic origin story. Yaaaawn. Go on, have a guess at which is which.
Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and co are pitched as the worst heroes ever, and it makes for a refreshing change. The entire trailer is set to the tune of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, and shows the ragtag bunch of baddies struggling through their mission, where they need to go somewhere very bad, to do something that could get them killed, in order to be freed from prison. The reaction to the trailer’s release has, however, been mixed. Having been treated to years of so-called ‘dark’ superhero movies, a lot of fans are obviously hooked, and want a great big sloppy dollop of the same old thing.
In that case, Wonder Woman looks like it could do the trick. Starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, it looks like it was created by someone who'd just swallowed A Dummy's Guide to Making a Superhero Movie. It could be one to watch if you’re suffering from insomnia. We’ll be taken on a trip through Diana the Amazon’s life, and learn why and how she became Wonder Woman. Expect lots of shadowy shots and slo-mo clips, and even more emotive music.
