New Robot Wars Axes Craig Charles in Favour of Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon

The BBC has announced its presenting team for the revival of Robot Wars it announced recently, and there's bad news for fans of 1990s variable tone shouting -- there's no Craig Charles.

We've read the announcement from the BBC several times now, and the only names mentioned are Dara Ó Briain (presenter) and Angela Scanlon (another presenter) and Jonathan Pearce ("legendary commentator"), plus loads of production people.

The BBC says the series will be shot in a "purpose-built fighting arena in Glasgow," with the production team promising we'll see "more robots, more battles and more science" in the six-part reboot.

Dara Ó Briain said: "I am thrilled to be presenting Robot Wars. For too long, the schedules have cried out for a show in which dedicated amateurs, toiling day and night, handcraft sophisticated automatons built on the delicate interplay of hand-wired servo motors with custom-built circuit boards and fingertip motion control, just to see them get smashed to pieces by a dustbin carrying a massive hammer. It's war, and how I love it so."

We looked Angela Scanlon up on the internet. Her key words are "hair," "husband" and "leather." She should do well with the trolls then. [BBC]
