With all of 2016’s flagships (apart from the iPhone 7 and next Note) having already launched, we’ve decided to turn our attention to the slightly cheaper handsets on the market. Snaps of the next version of the Moto G have leaked, and there's a ThinkPad in the background of one of the pictures, so you know it's the real deal.
The handset, which looks ever-so-slightly plasticky -- hopefully the shot above is really unflattering -- appears to feature a square fingerprint scanner and a pair of unusual holes above the rear camera. The word on the street is that an additional, optional sensor will be sold alongside the phone, but we’re yet to hear anything more specific than that. Sorry.
Slightly bafflingly, reports say that Lenovo plans to name the handset the Moto G4, which we’re not sure LG will be too pleased about. That said, we'd be happy to see the back of the current naming process, as nobody really knows what to call the latest in the G line. Is it the Moto G 3? The Moto G 2015? The 2015 Moto G 3? Not too clever.
The phone’s expected to feature a 5-inch display, but a swollen model is also said to be on its way to the market. That will apparently be called the Moto G4 Plus, and would be targeted at consumers with larger hands and pockets. [ArsTechnica]
