Android Pay is Indeed Available in the UK

The UK launch of Android Pay hasn’t gone smoothly, has it? After Pret jumped the gun last week, Google’s social team appeared to have done the same with a hastily-deleted Twitter update yesterday.

A subsequent announcement revealed that the payment service wasn’t quite ready for launch, suggesting that it was line for a Google I/O unveiling (aka tonight).

Or is it? I can confirm that Android Pay is available through the Google Play store right now (I downloaded the app this morning). Also, this is what the 'What's new' section of the page says:

There hasn’t been another peep from Google yet, but it’s surely just a matter of time.

The contactless payment system allows Android phone users to purchase goods without ever whipping out their wallet, and will be compatible with a load of banks, including the Bank of Scotland, First Direct, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, M&S Bank, MBNA and Nationwide Building Society.
