Top Gear's Replaced its 'Star In A Reasonably Priced Car' Segment

Cue hateful ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ chants. Details for the first episode of new Top Gear have been revealed, and we’re bidding a fond farewell to Star In A Reasonably Priced Car.

Incidentally, new host Matt LeBlanc was the all-time champion of the segment, managing to whizz around the track in a Kia Cee’d in a minute and 42.1 seconds. Fellow hapless character specialist Rowan Atkinson was a close runner-up.

The segment’s been replaced with Star In A Rallycross Car, which will see famous people race around a new track with a rallycross zone, a water splash area and a jump in a "suped up" red Mini Cooper with enhanced suspension. The Vauxhall Astra of old is gone forever, having been sold off.

Sure you want to do this? Alrighty then.

It'll be split into three main sections, with Chris Evans and Sabine Schmitz up first with an apparent tribute to Top Gun, which will involve them racing the Dodge Viper ACR against the Chevy Corvette Z06 in Nevada. Then it's time for LeBlanc and his bonkers Arial Nomad, and finally a bit where Evans and Joey do silly stuff in Reliant Rialtos.

The first celebs to hit the track will be Gordon Ramsay and Jesse Eisenberg, while comedian Chris Ramsey will be another early guest on the revamped show. An upcoming episode of Extra Gear, meanwhile, will also see Rory Reid promote chat to Mini about the new rallycross car. [RadioTimes]
