Idris Elba Appears to Have Ruled Himself Out of the James Bond Running

Fans of Aidan Turner have been given a bit of a boost today, with Idris Elba suggesting he won’t be the chap to succeed Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

Asked about the rumours in an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, Elba said, “No man [there is no news]. It is the wildest rumour in the world. I keep saying that if it was to happen it would be the will of a nation because there’s not been no talks between me and the studio about any of that. But everywhere I go people want that to happen."

Not quite the delivery you expect from 007, but that’s one of the reasons why so many people want to see him in the role.

"But if I’m really honest man, I think I'm too old for that,” the rugged 43-year-old continued, before cheekily adding, "Running around in cars... and ladies and martinis -- who wants to do that? Sounds terrible."

Daniel Craig is currently 48, while Roger Moore took up the mantle at the age of 45, so Elba’s reasoning isn’t exactly solid. I’d much rather see him in the role than Tom Hiddleston, who appears to be going head-to-head with Turner. Here’s a breakdown of the 10 likeliest replacements for Daniel Craig. [ABC via BBC]
