ABBA to Reunite for Unknown VR/Digital Project

By Gary Cutlack on at

The four people who were once known as ABBA are getting back together again, although sadly not to record a new album of happy/sad bangers about love not being like it is in films. It's to create a "Digital ABBA" project where we would imagine merchandise and opportunities to stream ABBA Gold to all your devices at a pleasant bitrate will feature strongly.

The key phrase is "new entertainment experience" which could mean... anything. A song. A film. A limited time exclusive infinite runner for Windows 10 in which one of the four characters jumps over metaphorical hurdles in order to reach a seemingly near yet unattainable goal of happiness.

The press release doesn't say exactly what's going on either, explaining it all as:

"The aim is to create an original entertainment experience with the Swedish Pop Superstars, which will enable a new generation of fans to see, hear, and feel ABBA in a way previously unimagined."

That sounds like VR ABBA, which might be quite nice if it captures the heady thrills of the Summer Night City video. That could be you there, being smiled at by a sweaty Benny, as Agnetha and Frida rub their bottoms together to generate the electricity required to power the PA system. I'd pay £10 to try that for 30 minutes.

Benny from the band says it'll be "A time machine that captures the essence of who we were," so some sort of 3D MMORPG in which it's the 1970s and the tunes were all better? [Universal via BBC]
