Android 7.1 Nougat Should be on Some Nexus Phones This Month

By Gary Cutlack on at

The a-bit-new version of Android that will arrive first on the two Pixel phones will make it to some Nexus models within days of its arrival on the posh new phones, with Google announcing that its developer preview of Android 7.1 is set to hit the Nexus series later this month.

Sadly for anyone still enjoying a Nexus 4, the launch will be limited at first to just appearing on the newest Nexus models -- the Nexus 6P, 5X and Pixel C tablet will be the ones that get the 7.1 Nougat preview to play with.

And you don't have to be a developer to get it on your phone. Visiting Android Beta is enough, where, once enrolled in the scheme, the latest update will hit your 2015 and beyond Nexus when it's ready. The fancy new stuff won't be part of it, though, with the likes of the Google Assistant and Pixel Camera set to stay exclusive to the two newest phones, because people sure do need some good reasons to buy those overpriced lumps.
