Traffic App Waze Joins London's Commuter Data Surge

By Gary Cutlack on at

Transport for London is getting together with crowd-sourced traffic and GPS app Waze, adding London's collection of delay and roadworks data to that built by the app's users.

The collaboration will see Waze's community-powered and live travel suggestions and data augmented by TfL's own data, so as well as letting car drivers moan about congestion from right within the fume-ridden hell there should be official data on where and when to expect large sections of roads to be coned off for no visible reason.

TfL's online boss Phil Young said: "We have a wealth of open data available and by working with Waze and joining the global Connected Citizens programme, we can not only ensure London’s road users have the information they need to plan their journeys, but we can also draw in more data to help us manage London’s busy road network."
