Lexus Unveils Spacecraft Fit For Life in 2716

Lexus has unveiled SKYJET, a spacecraft you’ll never be able to buy because a) it’s not for sale, and b) even if it was, it would only actually come out in 700 years and you’ll be long dead and forgotten by then, and c) it looks like a pricey bit of kit and -- let’s be honest -- you probably wouldn’t be able to afford it.

Created as part of a partnership with EuropaCorp, SKYJET’s been created for upcoming sci-fi film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, which is due in cinemas next July. It’s got Ethan Hawke, Dane Dehaan and eyebrow pioneer Cara Delevigne in it, and the CGI-heavy trailer looks very The Fifth Element. Promising. Though it’s also got Rihanna in it, so it might be rubbish.

Lexus says it wanted SKYJET to be “grounded in the real world, but appropriate for life in the age of Valerian, 700 years in the future.” However, we’re a little sad to learn that the single-seater is basically an advert for the Lexus LC coupe, which is due for launch in 2017.

You’ll be able to have a go on the SKYJET as part of a ‘fan experience’, says Lexus, but we’re not sure how far through space you’ll be allowed to travel.
