Huawei P10 vs P10 Plus: Which One Should UK Folks Go For?

By Holly Brockwell on at

Huawei's just unveiled its two flagship phones at Mobile World Congress: the P10 and the P10 Plus. They're follow-ups to the Leica-cobranded P9, and once again there's a big focus on photography (pun totally intended) - and, slightly oddly, colours. There are 8 of them, globally.

But should you go for the P10 or the P10 Plus? Let's compare.

Huawei P10 vs P10 Plus: display

The P10 Plus is unsurprisingly the bigger of the two phones, boasting a 5.5-inch LCD to the P10's 5.1 inches. The smaller phone has a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which is 431 pixels per inch, while the Plus has 2560 x 1440 - that's a whopping 534 pixels per inch.

If you're all about the big, beautiful screens, go for the Plus. But if you prefer a phone that's a little easier to hold, the standard P10 still offers full HD, and 431 ppi ain't half bad.

Huawei P10 vs P10 Plus: hardware and software

Both phones run Android 7.0 Nougat with the EMUI 5.1 skin over the top. The phones also share the same processor: the Hisilicon Kirin 960 (2.4 GHz octa-core). So not much to choose from here.

The big difference comes in the RAM: the P10 offers the flagship standard of 4GB, while the Plus equals the OnePlus 3T by offering an amazing 6GB. That's going to handle pretty much anything you throw at it.

Storage-wise, each phone only comes in one size: the P10 in 64GB and the Plus in 128GB. That's more than enough for most people, but if you're a file hog, you'll be pleased to hear you can also add microSD storage of up to 256GB in both phones.

Huawei P10 vs P10 Plus: cameras

Unlike the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, Huawei's opted for the similar camera setups on both sizes of its phone. Both the P10 and P10 Plus rock dual Leica cameras on the back: 12 and 20MP sensors with OIS. The P10 has an aperture of f/2.2, while the Plus has f/1.8.

On the front, both phones have an 8MP Leica-branded selfie cam.

Huawei P10 vs P10 Plus: battery

The Plus has a bigger screen to power, so it's good to see a beefy battery there to do the work. The P10 offers 3,200 mAh, while the Plus has 3,750. The former is pretty standard - and slightly lower than the new LG G6's 3,300 - while the Plus has a capacity on the higher end of what's currently available in the Android market. Alongside Nougat's power maximising capabilities, both sizes should last admirably.

Huawei P10 vs P10 Plus UK price and availability

We don't yet have pricing for the P10 and P10 Plus, but it's fair to say the Plus will be a good bit more expensive - the double storage alone would bump up the price a bit, never mind the RAM and improved camera.

We also don't know which of the 8 (!!) P10 colour options we'll be getting in the UK, but it seems safe to say probably not all of them. You can keep that manky avocado green, Huawei.

However, we do know we'll be getting both the P10 and the Plus in the UK - EE and Vodafone have already confirmed they'll carry both, and we expect others to follow. O2 has currently only announced the P10.
