Samsung's New Tablet Has Portrait and Landscape Audio

By Holly Brockwell on at

One of the more interesting features of Samsung's just-announced Galaxy Tab S3 tablet is the way it handles sound. Watching TV and movies was clearly high up the list of priorities in designing the Tab S3, and in addition to the large HDR-enhanced display, Samsung's taken the unusual step of putting in four speakers - one in each corner.

The speakers were tuned by well-regarded Austrian audio company AKG, and they work in tandem with the display so that when you turn it from landscape to portrait and back, the sound comes with it, coming out of the most appropriate speakers for the way you're holding it.

It's not a huge deal, but it's a smart bit of thinking in an overcrowded and under-innovated tablet market.
