Dubai Now Has Its Own Font

By Holly Brockwell on at

The city of Dubai has worked with Microsoft to create an official font for the city, which it claims is a world first (we're not convinced).

The minimalistically-named Dubai font supports both English and Arabic, and will be free to Microsoft Office 365 (that's the monthly subscription thing) users worldwide.

There's lots of love for the font on Twitter among residents of Dubai, though a fair amount of people from elsewhere have pointed out that #ExpressYou was perhaps not the best hashtag to choose.

Still, if this tweet's anything to go by, there'll be tonnes of Dubai fonts before long.

What do you reckon? Ingenious city marketing or a digital trinket to distract from bigger issues? Let us know in the comments. [Independent]
