Karl Pilkington, who made a name for himself being Ricky Gervais' guinea pig, is coming back to our TV screens — this time in a sitcom where he plays a version of himself.
Called Sick of It, the comedy will air on Sky 1 later this year as part of a new line-up of "edgy comedy shows" that'll fill a 10pm 30-minute slot. Karl will play himself in a reality where he'd never met Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, where he's stuck in a rut in a very mundane existence. He'll also play the part of Karl's 'voice in his head', his miserable alter ego who'll appear every so often to share his cantankerous opinions and criticisms with the real Karl.
The programme is written by Karl Pilkington himself, and is being produced by the same team that also worked with him on An Idiot Abroad and The Moaning of Life.
No set date has been given as to when we can expect Sick of It, but it's set to be before the end of the year. Karl's an incredibly funny guy and his sceptical view of life is easy to relate to for most of us. It's been a while since he last graced our screens, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing what his strange little mind has come up with. [British Comedy Guide]
