eBay Scalpers Cash in on Cheese Advent Calendar Crisis

By Gary Cutlack on at

It's not just Nintendo hardware that's making eBayers money at the moment — they're also winning big by reselling a strangely popular cheese selection advent calendar.

The cheese calendar went on sale this month through ASDA, and was such a wild success that it instantly sold out. Public health messages about not having sugar for breakfast are obviously starting to work. Miniature Jarlsberg, Red Leicester, Wensleydale, Cheddar, and Applewood cheeses are the delights within.

As a result of its instant sell out, listings like Cheese Advent Calendar - Sold Out In Shops, ASDA, 24 Cheeses are popping up on eBay, where, if you're particularly desperate because you promised someone, you can even meet a man in the Nottingham area and pick one up for £20. People seem to be charging a premium for ones that have been refrigerated since purchase.

The cheese calendar initially went on sale for just £8, so that's a nice profit out of Christmas already for some. [eBay]
