We’re getting closer and closer to Christmas—which means the twilight of the Twelfth Doctor is nearly upon us. The latest look at Peter Capaldi’s Doctor Who swansong might go a little farther than you’d expect in revealing what’s in store for not one Doctor, but two.
Although short, the trailer packs in a lot—shots of creepy glass monsters, jokes about the sonic sunglasses (they work indoors, don’t you know), and yes, the Twelfth Doctor working with his former self, now in the form of David Bradley. But it also ends with what is seemingly a first look at the Twelfth Doctor’s explosive regeneration.
Unlike the Eleventh-to-Twelfth regeneration, this looks rather explosive—the TARDIS aflame (so a new interior is probably on the way for Jodie Whittaker to go with that new TARDIS exterior), gushes of regeneration energy everywhere. But it’s also kind of surprising to actually show off part of the big moment in a trailer like this.
Unless it's one last Steven Moffat-stamped twist, and not all is what it seems to be? I wouldn’t put it past Moffat to have at least one more bait-and-switch in his book of tricks before he leaves the show, and it wouldn’t be the first time the BBC has played with teasing shots of regenerations...
