Amazon's Alexa Can Now Give You a Self-Esteem Boost on Command

By Tom Pritchard on at

Judging from all the emails I get, Amazon is quite good at updating its Alexa voice assistant and adding new features. Usually I don't pay much attention to them, unless I get a big long press release, but today the list of updates caught my attention.

As it turns out Alexa can give you a self-esteem boost on tap, and all you need to do is ask the imaginary person inside the Echo for a compliment.

So if you're ever feeling down, you can take comfort in the fact that your gadgets will love you unconditionally. It's not quite the same as having a dog, but considering most landlords are bastards and don't allow pets it's the next best thing.

Other features I've been informed about today include traffic information, Game of Thrones quotes, fake laughing, and playing the TARDIS sound effect from Doctor Who. Not sure how new they are (why would traffic updates have taken so long to implement?) but they're worth checking out if you're still using an Echo.
