Amazon Plots Free-to-Air, Ad-Funded TV Channels

By Gary Cutlack on at

A job posting for Amazon seems to have revealed a massive change that's coming to its film and TV offerings, with the retailer-slash-broadcaster looking to hire someone to manage free-to-air and ad-funded entertainment channels.

The job's up on LinkedIn where it's sat relatively unnoticed for four weeks. Until now. The ad says Amazon's EU teams need someone that would be "...responsible for widening the content range with the development of free and advertising-funded channels," which is a clear accidental bombshell announcement that there may soon be an Amazon Subprime for people who've not yet been convinced to join a subscription-based film and TV service.

Getting people on the site, where they may just start buying stuff in the ad breaks, must be the plan. [LinkedIn via This is Money]
