Back during the pre-launch rumour-leaking stage of the OnePlus 6's life, it had been suggested that there could be a limited edition version of the phone available in red - much like older OnePlus devices. That obviously never happened, with Silk White turning up instead, and the availability of a range of red cases on the OnePlus store. Now, though, the company has announced there will be a limited edition red variant after all.
The red OnePlus 6 will arrive on July 10th in the UK, US, Europe, and India, and like the Silk White it'll come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The good news is that the limited edition label doesn't come with a price hike, meaning it costs the same £519 as the other 8/128GB models. Naturally the phone will be available to order from the OnePlus store, with sales opening at 9am BST on 10th. That's eight days away, in case you don't have a calendar handy, and will also be the day Bullets Wireless headphones come back in stock.
I've also emailed O2 to see if they will be stocking the phone here, and will update if I hear back.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau claims a lot of engineering went into making the Red variant, which he describes as having an "amber-like" depth and clarity. He also revealed it has an evaporated layer or "brightening film" that helps maintain the bright coating. If you don't have a OnePlus 6 yet, and have been considering getting one, this might be your time. It's a great phone, and while not as flashy as other brands it does have a great battery life and a price that scoffs in the face of the near-£1000 price tags of other companies.
If you do fancy the red version, make sure you get your orders in fast. The Silk White edition sold out within 24 hours, and while OnePlus eventually restocked it there's no telling whether that'll be the case with the Red one. [OnePlus]
